March's meeting focused on creating a routine around your ideas.
But before hearing from special guest Nick Lewin, Assembly 206 welcomed our newest member, Dalton Jones.
Nick Lewin then spoke to Assembly 206 and shared some of the information he has learned over his remarkable career performing in major showrooms, casinos, and theaters around the world. Nick has developed an impressive ability to create entertaining and impactful routines that he shared with our group and the framework he has used for making your performance the best it can be.
After hearing from Nick and a short break, Robert Castillo opened the open mic portion of the night with an entertaining routine that started with a card trick that rolled into a well-polished sponge ball performance.
Next, Brooks Griffith took the stage and performed a card prediction where the chosen card was in an envelope that had been sitting out on the table. After Brooks' finished there was a lively discussion on different ways to approach the handling and alternate endings that could be done depending on the performer's style. It was a solid discussion with a lot of positive feedback and constructive criticism.
President John Carter closed out the evening's performances with a math-based prediction that had an extra kicker at the end where the prediction was also the volunteer's name when he flipped it over!
Next month, the members of Assembly 206 will continue to explore the many facets that come together to make a successful magician. Past President Adam Dunraven will highlight how he has tailored magic to his show, the character development that he has used, and the routining that has led to hundreds of successful performances of Prof. Dunraven's Wizarding School. Adam will also speak briefly about the business side of magic and how to make sure as a magician you are set up for success when booking shows.
