On Monday, July 17th, members of SAM Assembly #206 braved the heat (105 F!) for a meeting at the historic Hilger’s House in downtown Austin.
President Adam Dunraven opened the meeting with a performance of one of his favorite card tricks, X-Act Match, before giving the first eight attendees a free deck of cards prepared for the trick. He then went on to teach the effect and show members how they could make their own deck if they weren’t one of the early arrivals that received one already made.
Kent Cummins then followed up with a prediction effect using jumbo cards before teaching the effect. Those members that didn’t receive a deck from Adam received the full prediction set-up from Kent and he graciously provided the necessary items for the rest of the members to do the effect with a little bit of extra work.
Albert Lucio then showed a variation of X-Act Match that can be done almost completely impromptu before teaching the effect to members. Albert then went on to show some very impressive sleight of hand, all done one-handed!
Bobby Cordell changed things up by moving away from the cards and performing an entertaining rope routine. Then Robert Castillo brought us back to the cards before Immediate Past President, Bertil Fredstrom, showed a part of his larger stage act.
Tim Deitz, with the help of Miles Ford, closed out the evening with a final card trick that he taught to the group.
It was another great meeting of SAM Assembly #206, where members learned a lot and shared thoughts and ideas. We hope that more magicians from the Austin area (or even those that happen to be in town) can join us on Monday, August 21st at 7 PM for the annual White Rabbit Gift Exchange.
