Happy New Year Everyone!
I’m excited to take on the role of President and have some exciting plans for SAM Assembly 206. Before I get into those, I wanted to take a minute to thank John for all the hard work he’s put in over the past 2 years. John has brought us amazing lectures from people that have shared their knowledge on a variety of topics. Now it’s time for us to put that information to use and build on that knowledge.
For each meeting we’ll have a member or guest speak about their area of expertise. Some of these meetings will be workshop-based with members moving between stations, others will be hands-on creating things, and some will be traditional lectures. If there is a topic you’re passionate about and want to speak on, then please let me know. The best way to truly understand something is to teach it to others.
We all strive to improve as magicians and in that spirit we’ll be introducing feedback sessions as a regular part of the meetings. Members can present a trick or short routine that’s 7-15 minutes in length and then it will be opened up for constructive criticism from the other members. I’ll provide a few more details at the meeting, bet me know if you’re interested in doing a feedback sessions and we’ll get it set up.
Don’t worry, we’re not doing away with open mic! We’ll close each meeting with the opportunity for members to present whatever they want to, whether it’s something they just got or an old favorite.
We’ll go over all the details at the next meeting, have the first feedback session, see what new magic Santa brought you during the open mic, and a few other surprises.
I’ll see everyone at the next meeting on Monday, January 19th, at 7:00 PM in the meeting room at Hilgers House.
